Use the LTI connector to easily integrate your api.video videos into Moodle LMS

July 20, 2021 - Anne-Sophie

Early 2000s, most educational content creators were using tools such as Adobe Captivate, Camtasia or even PowerPoint to create independant e-learning materials. It was tedious and was requesting a lot of bandwidth. By 2010, most applications were web-based. That's when LTI appeared, a standard aimed to deliver a single framework for integrating any LMS platform with any third party applications.

In this post we will focus on the connection with Moodle LMS.

What is an LTI?

LTI means Learning Tools Interoperability and enables third party tools to integrate into an LMS (Learning Management System), such as Moodle or Blackboard, without the students realizing that they are intercating with another tool. LTI provides a direct connection, so content and courses can be updated dynamically. Think about the LTI connector as a universal cable that can connect with all kind of devices.

Why using an LTI Connector for video?

The LTI connector enables you to view, upload, publish, search, and share video directly from your LMS environment. The api.video connector makes it easier for teachers to share content quickly and improve learners engagement by having adaptative streaming with high quality videos.

For insitutions:

  • LMS infrastructure won't be impacted by video hosting and streaming
  • Only one interface to add videos and create a course
  • All the user management is handled by your LMS
  • You benefit from the LMS tracking on video activities

For LMS editors:

  • it provides a native video streaming feature
  • there is no development work needed
